Dear readers,
With the growing expat population and the rising number of Vietnam-
ese opting for an international education for their children, international
schools are proliferating, not only in the major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi
Minh City, but also in the large industrial hubs of Binh Duong and Ba Ria-
Vung Tau provinces.
However, not everyone is convinced by the quality of some of the newer
schools, with questions being raised about whether they are on a par with
those of other countries. This month, Timeout takes a broad view of the
international education sector through a series of special reports.
Also within these pages, one of Vietnam’s longest standing and most
pressing problems - road safety - comes under the spotlight. Every day, al-
most 30 people die in traffic accidents here, illustrating that despite con-
stant discussion, no truly effective solutions have yet been implemented.
