LA VERANDA RESORT AND SPA
Phu Quoc’s Bai Dai Beach was
voted as one of the world’s top 100
beaches by CNN and the tranquil is-
land is fast becoming one of the most
popular destinations in the region.
One of the best options on the
island is the intimate La Veranda Re-
sort and Spa, with its colonial style
décor, complete with paddle fans
and white louvers.
The deluxe villas have incred-
ible sea-facing porches and cathedral
ceilings, giving a sense of openness.
However, what makes this resort truly
special is the location – it is set on a 12
mile long, pristine beach with amaz-
ing sunset views.
Snorkeling or diving trips can be
taken around the An Thoi Archipel-
ago, plus there are nighttime squid-
fishing excursions.
Besides the resort’s own choice of
eateries, the excellent Palm Tree res-
taurant next door specialises in grilled
fish.
SIX SENSES NINH VAN BAY
Few resorts are more isolated than
Six Senses Ninh Van Bay in Nha Trang,
as it can only be reached by boat. A true
boutique property, there are less than
60 rooms starting at $600 per night.
The villas have sea view decks and a
butler service is available. Guests can
rejuvenate with a spa session or a yoga
class, or get active with water sports.
For families, the resort provides a kid’s
club and free cots are provided for the
little ones. There are a few dining op-
tions, such as enjoying a meal by the
bay or in the romantic Wine Cave.
The InterContinental Danang Sun
Peninsula Resort is new on the scene
but has already made a big splash,
scooping a hat full of awards and
making DestinAsian magazine’s exclu-
sive Luxe List. The price reflects the
prestige, with a two night stay plus
ancillary costs running about $1,000.
The resort is located on the Son Tra
Peninsula which is renowned both for
its stunning nature and the rare lan-
gur species it is home to.
For culture, guests can visit
the nearby Linh Ung Pagoda with
its 65 meter Buddha statue, which
is reached via a shuttle which also
serves Hoi An and the Han Market in
Da Nang. A little further afield, but still
within easy reach via a day trip, the
former imperial city of Hue is perfect
for those seeking to learn more about
Vietnam’s history.
Only 30 km from Son Tra Penin-
sula, Hoi An offers the beautiful An
Bang beach, another of the world’s
top 100 beaches according to CNN.
Hoi An itself is a UNESCO heritage
town that has been attracting huge
numbers of foreign tourists in recent
years thanks to its old Chinese shop
houses, relaxed riverfront bars and
restaurants, and traffic free streets.
