After nearly one-month’s voy-
age on the high seas, south-cen-
tral Phu Yen province’s fishermen
returned to the mainland disap-
pointed, because while there was
plenty to catch, the price of tuna
continues to fall. One ship owner
from Tuy Hoa city, said one kilo-
gram of tuna fetched VND180,000
($8.60) in previous years, but now
she can expect only VND120,000
($4.80).
Meanwhile, the outlay for a
one-month voyage keeps spiral-
ing, ranging from around VND150
million ($7,200) to VND200 million
($8,650-9,600) for a larger vessel.
As a result, some ships have been
staying out at sea for longer in an
effort to abate losses.
