TIONS
Despite the economic crisis, Viet-
nam still has rapid economic growth, in-
creasing disposable income and a large,
young population and I feel that the
tourism industry in Vietnam will show
positive growth in the coming years.
With the country’s fast growing
economy as well as the rapidly devel-
oping infrastructure, Vietnam remains
an attractive destination for invest-
ment in the region. The Hanoi People’s
Committee is focusing on developing
the West Hanoi area as the new Busi-
ness District of the city. A significant
number of global corporate and gov-
ernment agencies and ministries have
already moved into the area, with
many more planning to come in 2013
and onwards.
I believe in the next few years, Viet-
nam and Hanoi in particular will emerge
as the next hot destination in Asia.
What do you think about Vietnam ’s
potential as a destination and what
can we do to keep travellers coming
back?
Of course great hotels alone won’t
be enough to attract tourists, it takes
more than that to keep the guests
coming back to a destination. With the
authorities investing in better infra-
structure and public transport, I believe
Vietnam’s economy and the tourism
sector in particular will benefit greatly.
But keep in mind that everyone
has to make an effort in order to have
a great destination, not just hotels, at-
tractions and services, but local com-
munities, everyday people, you and me.
Be friendly, be welcoming, be responsi-
ble, be mindful of the environment, the
little things go a long way.
Equally important when promoting
a destination is to create your own im-
age. Vietnam is a beautiful country with
such unique charms, so why not tell the
world about it? Vietnam has so much to
offer in terms of beautiful tropical na-
ture and your rich history and culture;
you already have so much to work with
to create an unique image and brand
for Vietnam.
