The underwater

T
here are world class diving areas around the Son
Tra Peninsula, about 8 miles by boat from the five
star Furama Danang Resort, the only resort in Da-
nang to include a scuba diving centre run by the
Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).
Having visited many beauty spots in Vietnam, this des-
tination still surprised me, with its breathtaking scenes of
mountains and sea.
When my back touched the water’s surface and broke
its stillness, a feeling of comfort came over my body and
mind. Surrounded by water, at the depth of several meters,
a strange and beautiful world of sea creatures appeared
around me. Among the blue waters, coral of all shapes and
colours came in to view. Soft corals swayed gently, while
barracuda swam jubilantly around them. Blue starfish col-
lected in groups and bright sea anemones sheltered curi-
ous clown fish. Eels, lobster and scorpion fish all call the
coral reef home.
I lost track of time because of the irresistible attractions
of the undersea world’s beauty. Diving allowed me to see
and feel the pristine charm and strong vitality of this stun-
ning coastal land. This may have been my most memorable
vacation ever.
The diving season begins in March
and ends in September.
