a strong need for more rooms on the
beach. Important for now is to contin-
ue to look at the potential for Central
Coast Vietnam, anticipate positive de-
velopment and be ready to meet the
growing demand.
Are there any new opportunities to
develop new resorts, shops or other
services to capitalise on the Central
Coast’s attraction?
Many projects are still on hold. Even
if they finish their development the num-
ber of new rooms will still be limited. It
may sound a bit too optimistic, but after
nearly 18 years of staying in Vietnam, I
believe I am realistic. Beside the fact that
Central Vietnam may not have the best
weather conditions all year, its attrac-
tions can balance this out. There are still
many opportunities for new services to
be developed in terms of entertainment,
shops and restaurants, as well as theme
parks. Once the flow of tourism grows,
investors will recognise the potential
and follow.
Should the Central Coast be devel-
oped as a high-end destination, with
luxury resorts as it is at the moment,
or should it target mass markets with
more budget services and properties?
As for many destinations, it should
be a mix of high end and some mass
tourism too, which is also already the
case. We have to avoid the dominance
of certain tourists like Russians. We
see now in Vietnam that after Mui
Ne, Nha Trang has become the place
where the Russian language is domi-
nating the tourism areas. It would be
a pity if walking through Hoi An we
would see just Russian signs. It is im-
portant that we as the CCVDMO also
look at this and concentrate on the
long term image and avoid the short
term business that attracts some hotel
owners. Important too will be to en-
sure a future image that attracts new
target groups and guests that like to
come back again and again. We as Se-
renity Holding are looking at different
concepts in different categories and
brands like A La Carte, M2 Boutique,
Fusion Suites, knowing that this area
will develop.
