velop the fleet flexibly and we have
plans to expand the domestic network

Private airline Air Mekong has not set the
deadline for flying again following its decision
to halt all flights from March 1.
The carrier had flied to 13 destinations like
Con Dao and Phu Quoc islands, Buon Me
Thuot and Dalat in the Central Highlands in
addition to Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route. De-
spite high load factor of 82 per cent, it had
incurred losses and had to stop flying. It has
transported 1.6 million passengers during the
two years of operation.
Air Mekong chairman Doan Quoc Viet
said the carrier would return four Bombardier
CRJ900 to the owner and would look for other
kind of aircraft. An option the carrier would
consider was to become a low cost airline.
However, Viet saidwhen the carrier would fly
again depended on Vietnam’s and the world’s
economic recovery and it would be “very risky”
if Air Mekong was in haste to fly again.
Air Mekong is owned by Bim Group, which is
also the owner of Halong Plaza Hotel in Quang
Ninh province and Fraser Suites serviced apart-
ment and retail complex in Hanoi.
No date set for Air Mekong to fly again
