Ho Chi Minh City. “If you ask anyone
in Saigon where would be the best
place to live in District 2 - the answer
will be River Garden,” says Ryder. Also
nearby, Indochina Land acquired luxury
serviced apartments known as the Sai-
gon Riverside Apartments, while on Con
Dao, the latest hot island in Southeast
Asia, Indochina Land has developed Six
Senses Con Dao Resort, with 50 luxury
beachfront villas.
On Central Coast in Danang, the
company has built the first premium
complex combining apartments, a
shopping center and offices in the
Indochina Riverside Towers. Mean-
while, outside the city, the company
has developed a new 18-hole golf
course - Montgomerie Links Vietnam
- which has been ranked by Forbes
Travel Guide as one of the 10 best
golf courses in Asia. In addition, in
October 2011, Indochina Land opened
the Hyatt Regency Danang, a landmark
development which has transformed
the Central Coast into an international
destination.
“With Hyatt, we aim to create a
family-oriented resort, with extensive
facilities and entertainment, such as
tennis courts, swimming pools, a spa
and fitness center, a climbing wall, and
restaurants,” says Ryder.
To find a management group for
the resort Indochina Land coordinated
a stringent selection process between
Starwoods, Marriott and Hyatt. They
finally settled on Hyatt because of its
consistently excellent performance and
world-wide reputation as one of the
most professional and effective opera-
tors. In their first year of operation,
Hyatt Regency Danang achieved an oc-
cupancy rate of over 30 per cent and it
is expected that this rate will double in
the next 8 - 10 months.
The Indochina Plaza Hanoi, posi-
tioned in the heart of Hanoi’s university
district, with many young families liv-
ing nearby, was completed in the first
quarter of 2012. Its shopping center has
welcomed many well-known food and
beverage brands, such as Burger King,
Pizza Hut, KFC, Highland Coffee, Z-piz-
za, Sushibar and other international and
local fashion brands.
The business figure Peter most ad-
mires is Steve Jobs, the legendary Apple
CEO. Peter respects Jobs’ entrepreneurial
spirit, creativity, passion and meticulous
way of working. Peter also admires War-
ren Buffet, a famous investor and entre-
preneur who is now over 80 years old
and has become known as the ‘Oracle of
Omaha’. In the real estate field, one of
the figures Peter most admires is Gerald
D.Hines, CEO of Hines. Hines is one of
the largest real estate companies in the
world and operates in 16 countries.
Considering what Ryder and his part-
ners in Indochina Capital have achieved
in Vietnam, it is easy to see a connec-
tion between what he admires and what
he achieves. The company’s real estate
portfolio is now worth more than $2
billion - a number Peter, nor any of his
colleagues, could ever have envisaged.
With a sharp business mind, an abil-
ity to grasp opportunities and significant
experience, he is now setting sights on
the development of a new complex, Park
City in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh
City. In Hanoi, the company is also plan-
ning to develop another big project near
My Dinh, although Peter is keeping his
cards close to his chest regarding the
details - watch this space.
