Dear readers,
It seems that sooner have the Halloween decorations come down
than the Christmas lights go up around Vietnam. We know that this
time of year is always a joyous occasion for foreigners living in Viet-
nam, even though many of you will perhaps be a little sad not to be
in your homeland.
However, it is perhaps becoming a little easier to spend Christmas
here in Vietnam as the country is increasingly embracing this ‘west-
ern’ festival. Every year the Christmas decorations get bigger and
brasher and the number of Vietnamese who take to the streets don-
ning Santa hats on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve grows.
In recent times the holiday season has become a truly wonder-
ful time of year when both foreign residents and Vietnamese come
together to share a glass of mulled wine and enjoy traditional treats,
like mince pies and plum pudding.
