BVIS prepares the children as the
very best so they can make changes
for the next generation. “If they leave
Vietnam to go to abroad to study or
work permanently, then we fail in our
job,” Sayer said. “My role here is to help
prepare Vietnamese children for a new
world which they will be entering as
adults without them losing the connec-
tion with being Vietnamese.”
To do that, the school teams and
experts had to map the curriculums of
the UK and Vietnam, comparing them
in key areas to make sure that they
do not overlap – they are aiming to
achieve the best of both. Teaching is
in both Vietnamese and English, with a
different ratio for each grade.
“It is very important that every child
knows that they matter. From an early
age, they have thoughts, ideas, feel-
ings, and creativity and they must know
these are valid,” Mark emphasised.
Besides taking great time to an-
swer parents and students, not only
in meeting but also through email
or social network, Sayer is spending
three hours per day to learn Vietnam-
ese. “I wish to have a closer approach
to my students through their native
language and culture,” he said. And it
seems to be that this student oriented
thinking is the key point of success
at BVIS.
