A
s Ho Chi Minh City attracts more global citizens,
many restaurants are opening, bringing local people
as well as expats various choices of international
cuisines. However, people who love authentic tastes
may not always feel pleased with the offerings outside their
home countries.
Luckily enough for those seeking a true taste of Brazil-
ian cuisine, Au Lac do Brazil has been serving top quality
Brazil flavours since it opened its doors back in 2003, serv-
ing both an a la carte menu and an all-you-can-eat buffet.
According to Jan Stromler, proprietor of the restaurant,
Au Lac do Brazil is the very first authentic Brazilian Churrascar-
ia (barbecue) in Vietnam. The restaurant impresses customers
with its rodizio service, which means rotary-cooked meat is
brought on skewers to each table by a passador (server).
Jan says what makes him most pleased is the quality of
the dishes: “We have well- qualified chefs who ensure every-
thing runs exactly the way it does in Brazil. We pride ourselves
on the fact that the taste is exactly what a gourmet expects
in a Brazilian BBQ.”
The restaurants’s clientele base is 50 per cent local, and
so in order to suit the local palate, the experienced chefs have
lightly adjusted the Brazilian cuisine without changing the es-
sential authentic flavour.
Au Lac do Brazil uses the best quality imported meats
which are grilled on custom-grilling equipment. All items are
carefully prepared with unique marinades and techniques
and then barbequed to perfection before being served to
customers.
Besides main courses including steak, lamb, chicken, sau-
sage and ham, customers also have a wide selection of fine
wines, salads and desserts.
The food and drink is the soul of a restaurant, but custom-
ers have also been coming back to Au Lac do Brazil for years be-
cause of the atmosphere, the decor and the passion of the crew.
The restaurant, which has the capacity of around 130
guests, always has a friendly atmosphere with joyful Latino
songs and an enthusiastic catering team.
Visitors can easily find good feedback on Trip Advisor and
the restaurant was awarded the Certificate of Excellence by
the website in 2013 thanks to consistently great reviews.
One user of the site, ‘Simon D’, commented: “The high-
light for me was the insanely tender-fall apart melting beef
shoulder. And that along with the nice staff they had, will
keep me coming back for more during my stay in Vietnam.”
“At first, people may come due to their curiosity, but it
is the quality of food and service that keep them coming for
a decade”, says Jan. “The customers’ feedback really encour-
ages us as we know we are doing something to be proud and
passionate about.”
Encouraged by the success of the first restaurant in
Saigon, Au Lac do Brazil expanded to Hanoi in 2007 and the
restaurant recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary.
