– to develop the first professional paint-
ball team in Vietnam. The owner has
invested heavily in the club. “Tri Long is
the first paintball club in Vietnam that
imported the HPA (high pressure air)
Air Compressor, which is preferred by
professionals, to pump gas into guns,”
says Le Minh Phu, manager of the club’s
business department.
The club, which spans some three
hectares, comprises four distinct battle
zones. Each area can accommodate 30
- 40 players.
When we visited the club, members
of Tri Long paintball team were training
for a paintball tournament which will
be held in Ho Chi Minh City in Decem-
ber. It was like something out of an
action movie, with the riotous sound
gunfire filling the air. Players took ad-
vantage of obstacles, such as tires and
trees to shelter behind, and those who
took a direct hit were eliminated from
the game.
The Tri Long team won the bronze
medal in the Malaysia Paintball Official
Circuit 2012 in May and they are striv-
ing to be the team to represent Viet-
nam in other international paintball
tournaments.
Developing teamwork
Paintball is also a popular team
building development tool. The sport
helps players obey rules and the com-
mands of leaders. It also helps them
realise the importance of solidarity and
having a leader in their team. According
to Nguyen Huu Tri, vice director of BS
Group, which has five year’s experience
in providing team building services in
Vietnam, paintball belongs to the field
of adventure teambuilding.
Besides paintball, companies like
BS offer other activities like sailing and
mountain climbing.
If well designed, a team building
activity can change employees’ working
habits and lead to positive organiza-
tional change. Depending on their pur-
pose, company leaders may cooperate
with team building providers to design
specific activities.
Tri says the total time required to
design an effective team building activ-
ity is from 1.5 - 3 months, depending
on the level of understanding between
a team builder and their customer.
“Unlike most Vietnamese enter-
prises, foreign businesses regard hu-
man resources as their most precious
property,” says Dinh The Khai, HR Direc-
tor of BS Group. “They also see team
building as one of the most effective
tools available to a human resources
department”.
BS Group has provided team build-
ing activities for national and inter-
national corporations, such as Petro
Vietnam, Maersk Line, DHL, Nuplex,
Shiseido, and Sacombank.
