The orchestral work ‘Rite of Spring’ by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky will be presented in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in June.

‘Rite of Spring’ has been described as the most important piece of music of the 20th century. It was first introduced to audiences by the Theater des Champs-Élysées in 1913. The ballet is a story of authentic rites in ancient Russia.

The dance performance conducted by French leading choreographer Jean-Claude Gallotta aims at celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations between France and Vietnam.

When recomposing the 100-year-old ballet in Paris, Gallotta kept the original music score composed and recorded by Stravinsky. However, the character ‘Blessed’ will be played by seven female dancers.

Two short chapters will lead the next epic of which three were written to honor the great composer Igor Stravinsky, including ‘Tumult’, listening to the peace of dance; ‘Dear Igo’, showing respect to the composer; and ‘Rite of Spring’, enjoying the bustling and energetic rite.

Performances will take place at Ben Thanh Theater in HCMC on June 27 and at the Youth Theater in Hanoi on June 29.
