The 29-year-old actor and rapper was found unconscious and sent to the intensive care unit for treatment, Yonhap cited YG Entertainment as saying.

Police later said he appeared to have overdosed on prescription tranquilisers that he had taken at 10pm on Monday. He was taken to hospital when he had not woken up by noon the next day.

The incident came a day after T.O.P, who real name is Choi Seung-hyun, was indicted on charges of smoking marijuana and transferred out of Gangnam Police Station, where he had been serving as a conscripted policeman.

He was assigned to the station after his army exiting ceremony in March.

T.O.P was accused of smoking the banned substance four times in his home in Seoul last October, a few months before his mandatory military enlistment.

He admitted doing so on two instances and said it did not involve liquid marijuana.

According to the state news agency, his military service is being put on hold as the court reaches a verdict on his charges. If sentenced to a jail term of 18 months or more, the Korean star will be required to re-enlist, said the report.
