The Best Picture win for “Argo” at Sunday’s Oscars marked the end of a long awards season journey for director and co-producer Ben Affleck. So, how did he decide to symbolically mark the occasion?

He shaved off his beard!

And Affleck didn’t wait until he was home for the great Oscar shave of 2013. The star actually shaved his beard at a private afterparty for the acclaimed film at Craig’s in West Hollywood.

“It took place in the hallway,” a source at the party tells omg!. “The family wanted him to shave.”

So, there you have it! It was most likely a deed performed at the request of Affleck’s wife Jennifer Garner. And certainly, daughters Violet, 7, and Seraphina, 4, prefer kissing a more smooth-faced daddy! Yahoo! Movies reported back in October that Affleck, 40, took grief from his two daughters about his unshaven appearance as well as his hairdo for “Argo.”

"I kept trying to tell my littler kids [that this was for work],” he said. But "they would say, 'Why can't you shave your … prickles? Shave your prickles!'" Wife Jennifer Garner was reportedly also "appalled" by her husband’s hairiness. Affleck’s beard has been a fixture on his face this past year, ever since he wore it playing Tony Mendez, the real-life CIA agent he portrays in “Argo.”

According to Us Weekly, "George Clooney and and other friends and colleagues (were) egging him on." The mag claims that Garner "actually brought the clippers to the party."

At one point, in true Internet fashion, his beard had its own Twitter account (the account has since been suspended). Vulture even went so far as to jokingly attribute Affleck’s film success rate to the presence of facial hair.

So, who else was carrying on at Craig’s into the wee hours? According to Page Six, “Argo” producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov naturally were there, along with Clooney’s girlfriend Stacy Keibler and his Casamigos tequila pal Rande Gerber with wife Cindy Crawford. CAA power agent Bryan Lourd and developer Mike Meldman also attended the festivities, along with “Argo” actress Clea DuVall with her girlfriend.
