Beijing trip to maintain high-level exchanges

The visit will be made at the invitation of Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

The commemoration is expected to be attended by about 20 top leaders of the nations’ governments.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the trip, the two sides are to discuss solutions in order to further strengthen the relations of the two parties and two states, and boost the implementation of previously made agreements and the materialisation of co-operative sectors.

During Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s April 7-10 official visit to China, the two countries clinched many agreements, including a co-operation plan between the two communist parties for the 2016-2020 period, an agreement on extradition co-operation, and an agreement on taxation issues for the joint oil and gas exploration project in the Tonkin Gulf.

Both sides have also agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in education, culture, information, sports, toursim and environment.

China is Vietnam’s biggest trade partner, with the two sides’ bilateral trade turnover reaching $43.1 billion in this year’s first eight months, with Vietnam’s trade deficit being $22.3 billion.

Last year, Vietnam-China trade turnover hit $58.57 billion, up 17.2 per cent on year. Vietnam’s trade deficit with China totalled nearly $29 billion, up 22 per cent on year.

As of June 20, 2015, China had 1,141 valid investment projects registered with a total of $8.13 billion in Vietnam.
