BAC NINH - The Culture, Sports and Tourism Department of Bac Ninh Province has invested VND12 billion (about US$570,000) to restore two quan ho houses.

These houses were originally used as places for quan ho (love duet) artists to gather for training and performances or to receive fellow singers from other villages.

Replicas of the seven-component ancient-style house, the two houses are being built in Van An Ward in Bac Ninh City, and in the Lung Giang Hamlet in Lim Town in Tien Du District.

The replicas are part of a project that aims to preserve and promote the intangible cultural heritage of quan ho and ca tru (ceremonial singing), two folk music genres of Bac Ninh.

In 2009, quan ho was recognised as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, while ca tru was listed as an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection.
