Today B. Braun officially opened its 32.6 million euros intravenous (IV) set production facility in Hanoi, creating the largest medical technology complex in Vietnam.

The opening of the new B. Braun facility was witnessed by German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel, who started a two-day official visit to Vietnam on October 11.

The new production facility covering an area of 9,800 square metres will enable B.Braun’s IV set production in Vietnam to be increased from 35 million to 100 million units per year, and to as many as 200 million in the long term.

“Here we see our strongest growth potential in the next few years,” said Dr. Heinz Walter Grobe, chairman of the B.Braun Management Board, adding that the new IV set production plant marked a further milestone in the company’s commitment to Vietnam.

He said that the new production site in Hanoi was part of two investment programmes totalling 3 billion euros and aimed primarily at building and expanding production facilities around the globe, but also in Germany. Another IV set factory is located at B.Braun’s headquarters in Melsungen which was also expanded as part of the programmes.

B.Braun has maintained a presence in Vietnam since early 1990s in the form of a joint venture with Hanoi Pharmaceutical Company. In 1992, the company initially opened a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City, followed by other offices in Hanoi, Danang, Can Tho and Hue.

In 1996, B.Braun set up its first Vietnamese production facility, an IV solutions plant in Hanoi. Today, B. Braun Vietnam is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the B.Braun Group with a workforce of around 1,000 people.

The B.Braun’s new facility was designed and built by M+W Vietnam Co., Ltd. a member of the Germany’s M+W Group, which specialised in designing and construction of high-tech facility plants. M+W is currently building the First Solar plant in Dong Nam Industrial Park in Ho Chi Minh City.
