Local online hotel booking site Vntrip.vn has received a $3 million investment from John Wu, former chief technology officer (CTO) of China’s largest e-commerce company, Alibaba.

The investment will be used to expand Vntrip.vn, offering free shuttle services from airports to hotels for all domestic customers booking through the website.

Besides, part of the invested sum will be used to provide discounts and free nights for loyal customers at interesting travelling spots, such as Nha Trang, Danang, Hoi An, Da Lat, and Phu Quoc, among others.

“We are incredibly happy because the investor believes in the growing prospects of tourism in Vietnam, and our company’s potential. After the first round of fundraising, we will continue to improve our customer services, and widely promote the Vntrip.vn website”, founder Le Dac Lam said.

Vntrip.vn wants to capitalise on its technological advantages to expand its scale to the world, the first step of which will be covering the whole domestic market.

Earlier, Vntrip.vn cooperated with Booking.com, a unit of America’s $65 billion Priceline Group, with the aim to establish one of Vietnam’s largest online hotel booking networks. It is currently connected to over 900,000 Vietnamese and international hotels.

Online booking is becoming a prevalent trend in Vietnam, as customers can find information, pictures, important instructions, prices, and check availability of rooms before making a reservation and pay on the website.

Furthermore, Vntrip.vn is also the first Vietnamese Over-the-Air programming (OTA) start-up to support Android and IOS mobile users.
