AkzoNobel Paints Vietnam has a new commander in chief.

Teng (right) will leverage on his experience in beverage industry to lead the paint company

He is David Teng, former director of Vietnam’s leading brewery VBL.

“In my new position at AkzoNobel Paints Vietnam, I’ll continue the good job done by my predecessor Jun de Dios to lead our experienced team through the current challenges facing the housing and real estate industry,” said Teng, the general director of AkzoNobel Paints Vietnam.

“We will do our very best to meet our customers’ needs and expectations and to win their support for Dulux and Maxilite brands to continue to be the leading and trusted brands in the decorative paints market of Vietnam. It is also my great pleasure to share with all of you that Dulux and Maxilite are the very first products in the local paints market to obtain the certification of compliance with the nation’s technical regulations by Quality Assurance and Testing Centre 3.”

Teng said Dulux was among a few brands in Vietnam awarded Green Label by Singapore and he would continue Dios’ efforts to ensure that AkzoNobel Vietnam continued to be a leader in implementing sustainable environmentally manufacturing processes and in community engagement activities.

The firm was recently honoured with two prestigious Asia-Pacific Enterprise Leadership Awards in two categories, social services and eco advocate. The company is the only Vietnam paint company to have won the awards in both categories. Organised by non-profit organisation Asia-Pacific Enterprise Cooperation Limited, the awards recognise outstanding corporate leadership in sustainable development and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Teng said despite working in the beverage area he was aware of the considerable paint industry challenges.

Jeremy Rowe, managing director of AkzoNobel Decorative Paints, Southeast Asia and Pacific, came to Vietnam last week to introduce Teng as the new general director. “Vietnam is definitely an important market that we’re committed to grow in,” said Rowe.

AkzoNobel has been continuously investing in Vietnam, with some 13 million euros poured into the production plant in Binh Duong province. The facility was built in September 2007 with an initial investment of 8 million euros, covering 60,000 square metres.
