The very-recently formed Viet Celts (Vietnam’s first ever Gaelic football club) are off to Singapore to set the Asian Gaelic Football Sevens alight with their scintillating brand of total Gaelic football,
Vietnam’s only Gaelic Football team, the Viet Celts, pose for the press at training in Hanoi
which involves a fair amount of huffing and puffing, lots of sweating and the occasional crack at goal. A squad of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City’s finest has been assembled with players from Ireland, Vietnam, England, Scotland, the US, France and Australia ready to make history and represent Vietnam at the tournament to be held on June 23-24. Rest assured, the lads have been training intensively, despite the heat wave, and will be out to steal the show. As regards their secret weapon, as soon as they work out who or what that is, they’re definitely keeping it to themselves – otherwise it wouldn’t be a secret. Yes, previously in Vietnam the word ‘ga’ might have meant chicken or perhaps ‘station’ but now the scholars will have to make room in the local dictionary for a new entry – GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) as Gaelic Football has arrived!
The Viet Celts travel to Singapore thanks to the generous sponsorship of ESB International, Terotech International Limited, Finnegan’s Bar Hanoi, Enterprise Ireland and Tiger Air.
